SpinTunes #2: Round 1 Challenge

There's No Place Like Home - Write a song about YOUR hometown. (2 minute minimum) (your submission is due October 10th 11:59PM Sun EDT)

You should use the name of the town in the song at some point. The town you pick can be your place of birth, where you grew up, or where you're living now; but it has to be someplace you have actually lived at some point in your life. If you once took a 2 week vacation to Florida...that does not count. We mean someplace you have roots of some sort.

Example:
One famous example would be "I Left My Heart In San Francisco". Here's 2 examples from one of our judges: "Here In Union" & "Killin' Time".

Submitting Entries:
- Entries must be received by the given deadline. Otherwise it'll be posted as a shadow. Received means that it has to appear in my e-mail inbox by the given deadline. I will be going by the time stamp on the e-mail in my inbox.

- Send your file in a format that Bandcamp accepts. (.aiff, .wav or .flac) (at least 16-bit/44.1kHz) You can find the specific requirements for Bandcamp files HERE.

- Name your file the song's title, but without spaces & punctuation.

- Title of the e-mail should be the title of the Challenge & your band's name.

- Include the song lyrics in the body of the e-mail. (If your song doesn't have lyrics...consider yourself eliminated. Instrumentals can be pretty, but SpinTunes does require lyrics.)

- Include information on anyone that needs credited if you collabed with someone.

- File sharing options if you need them: YouSendIt, RapidShare, ZShare & MediaFire. Please send an e-mail as I already stated, but with the download link if you need one of these services. Please follow directions so your file doesn't wind up in my spam or trash folder accidentally.

- If you have a BandCamp account, you can just send me a link to your song on BandCamp if you include all the info I mentioned above. Make sure you have it set as a free download, and have it set so that I don't have to put in an e-mail to download it if you pick this option.

  1. So how does that work for a Duo one of whom is living in Dundee, Scotland and the other living in Austin Texas?

(Jebus Joe... Just started and ALREADY asking awkward bluidy questions!)

  2. For those that are in a band, or teamed up with someone for this contest, it's up to you to decide on which hometown to use.

So Joe & Denise...you have to somehow decide amongst yourselves if you are going to write about Joe's hometown, or Denise's hometown. Either is fine.

  3. Makes it very difficult...
Especially given the differences in places and the vagaries of overseas collaboration.
It's actually a non-musical handicap that others do not have to deal with.
    Just sayin'

  4. Probably, but I'm not sure where a couple of the 'groups' in the contest live.

Either way it could be worse. For instance if you both lived in Michigan your entire life. So look on the bright side. :p

  5. HAHA! Yeah, it would be horrible to both live in Michigan! However, Joey and I are both in the same boat as Joe, working from Avondale, Arizona and Kalamazoo, Michigan.
    Ugh...Michigan...

  6. This is a sort of an odd question. I use the name of the town, but don't SAY i tis the name of the town, althought the song is about the town, the name of the town is a phrase in itself. Am i gonna be okay? What are your thought s officiials?

Hey Travis, I just realised, I've used my hometown for the title. Does it need to be in actual lyrics?

  8. As long as you use the name in the song somewhere you should be fine Ross.

Graham, the name of the town should be spoken in the song at some point, not just used in the title.

  9. I just want to get this on record that i sent you my file at 11:53.

It is a .wav file and it is 46 MB so I hope it doesn't get hung up in the e-mail for being too large.
