SpinTunes #12: Profiles

Time to meet your fellow competitors!  I suggest you all test out your links to make sure they are working, and if you notice anything else that's missing or wrong just let me know.  I'll fix them as soon as I can.  The first challenge gets posted later tonight...get ready.

(Profile order is based on who sent in their round 1 song first.)

Edric Haleen:  "Ol' Man Edric" is back!  One of the few surviving relics from Masters of Song Fu, Edric has been part of every SpinTunes except ST9 (when he went on a honeymoon instead) and the two "Champion versus Shadow" competitions (the two summers during which he first wrote and then worked to produce a full-length musical based on Jonathan Coulton's song, The Princess Who Saved Herself)!  Edric would like to thank Travis for his seminal role in everything that SpinTunes is, has been, and continues to be . . . and to encourage him to seize upon the nearest excuse, any excuse, whatever excuse, to escape the confines of the hell that is, has been, and will in all likelihood continue to be Ohio.

The Boffo Yux Dudes:  Old guys who do know better. The Dudes started in 1987, reformed in 2009, and got time off for good behavior. Now they attempt to do music. Allan Morgan, Tom Giarrosso and Scott Mercer head this version of BYD with rabid optimism that they'll be remembered for more than just all those replays on Dr. Demento. Chris Cogott is also soft in the head and offered to help us with the talent portion of our program. Record holder of most ST shadow songs submitted. We live 3000 miles apart, so cut us some slack. For a good time call... damn, we're so old, the time and temp number doesn't exist any more. Crap.

Megalodon:  The "Big mighty" band is an extinct species of shark  rock that lived long ago, during the Cenozoic Era.

Megalodon is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predator bands in vertebrate rock history,  and likely had a profound impact on the structure of marine rock. Primative recordings suggest that this giant shark rock band reached a maximum awesomeness. The Megalodon showing in Spin Tunes 11 was that of a mitsukurina. We were bested by the Jailhouse Payback, we hope they comeback to defend their title. Sharks always move forward, especially big and mighty sharks. Looking forward to the hunt.

Ryan M. Brewer:  A singer/songwriter by trade, Ryan M. Brewer is more accurately described as a traveling musical storyteller. Having always placed the primary importance on lyricism, his songs tend to float effortlessly between genres...each one falling precisely where it needs to in order to most accurately tell the story. And that's all that matters - songs and stories.

Bryan Schumann:  Bryan Schumann is a composer and performer based in St. Paul, Minnesota. An eclectic composer, Bryan embraces an immense spectrum of music. He writes and produces songs in many popular genres, as well as music for classical ensembles of all sizes (from chamber duos to large orchestras). He also creates ambient, electro-acoustic/avant-garde, and improvisatory music, and produces music and sound design for video games and film. He practices the amalgamation of all styles and is excited by the idea of crumbling the walls of genre.

Brian Gray:  If music be the food of love, play on; give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, the appetite may sicken, and so die. That strain again! it had a dying fall: O! it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound that breathes upon a bank of violets, stealing and giving odour.

Mick Bordet:  When not Lunacy Boarding or Dreiviertel Dreing, Mick mostly creates instrumental music that combines timbres in unexpected ways using a range of instruments from self-built synthesizers to broken zithers rescued from a flea market. Past SpinTunes efforts have resulted in songs about fabulous vikings, psychopathic lollipop ladies and tasty highland cows, so don’t expect any boy-meets-girl songs!

DJ Ranger Den:  DJ Ranger Den often refers to herself and her alleged identities in the third person but you don’t know her and neither do they. She suddenly no longer feels the need to yammer on in this bio which might belong to someone else or even to you, should you want to purchase it for a small fee. These were lies an hour ago. In exchange for your silence, we give you this pensive and tiny sullen photograph of ourselves. Also, we are not “real” DJs, but are like über authentic.

Kyleen Downes:  The guitar has been a part of Kyleen's life since she was 12. She's always enjoyed creating music with it and eventually she started writing songs during her time in the Army. After moving to the Dayton area in 2008 she paired up with different musicians and played in the acoustic duo Smilin' Gray and party band The Undercovered. She and fellow songwriter, Emma Woodruff, released the album "Longing for Something” in 2014.  In 2015, Kyleen branched off into her solo career and she has performed in songwriter showcases, at Dayton Sideshow, LadyFest Dayton, and GemFest.  Her solo album “Maybe Sometimes” was released in July 2016.

SHADOWS

Andy Glover:  Hi, I’m Andy. I started playing acoustic guitar at the tender age of 13 and never really stopped. I got my start in songwriting after friends I’d made on youtube encouraged me to start writing my own songs rather than just posting covers. I’m a somewhat “spiritual” fellow, and I enjoy writing songs about the great unknown. And love songs. Those too. I hope some day to turn the touring musician life into a financially viable profession. I’m an avid concert goer and adore the Seattle folk scene.
