Before meeting the SpinTunes 20 contestants, you should know that our faithful Listening Party host Tommy G of Boffo Yux Dudes is hosting a special, all-request Warm-Up Listening Party tomorrow, Monday March 13 at 9 pm EDT.
Throughout the tournament, these Listening Parties are your chance to hear all the competing entries for the very first time, but this time we're taking a trip down memory lane with your favorite SpinTunes songs from years past.
If you have requests you want to hear from the archive, email SpinTunesContest@gmail.com with the titles and, if you know them, which album(s) they're from. Tommy G may also take requests in the live chat if he's able, but if you want to guarantee you'll hear your song, make your request ahead of time!
Please join us tomorrow night at this YouTube link or embedded below:
Now, let's take a moment to get to know each other. We have a great crop of contestants this year, with a wide range of backgrounds and musical styles. I can't wait to hear all your submissions! Read on to meet all the folks who signed up for SpinTunes 20:

Haven’t done this thing in too long. Right now I’m on a boat with other past Spintunes participants and I know it’ll be A Thing if I don’t sign up this year. Or maybe I’m just telling myself that as some form of self-motivation. So let’s hope I can finally make a return to both writing AND recording a song within the deadline, no matter how poorly it may turn out. ;)

Berni Armstrong
Been writing songs since I was fifteen, some fifty four years ago. Had songs of mine recorded by luminaries of the English Folk world of the 1980s and by the Catalan Rock Bands Pete Flipat and The Saturday Blues Project.
Boffo Yux Dudes
Old guys who should know better. The ones your parents warned you about. Allan Morgan and Tom Giarrosso head this version of BYD with Scott Mercer, using rabid optimism that they'll be remembered for more than just all those Elvis Traffic interactives with DJ's around the USA. But no one reads these blurbs anyways. I'll send a secret mp3 to anyone who emails with 'You're full of it, I've read it and you owe me' as the subject line to boffoyux at gmail dot com. You're welcome.

"BucketHat" Bobby Matheson
"BucketHat"" Bobby Matheson is a former television professional who has been doing this music-competition thing for over a decade.
Influenced by artists like They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton and The Mountain Goats, Matheson is a solo musician who takes an unconventional but folksy approach to home-made song-making.
Lately, he has been writing performing and producing music live on Twitch as a delivery method for his craft.
After nearly 15 years of practice, does he finally have what it takes to win a SpinTunes contest? Only time will tell!

JW Hanberry
Over a lot of years I've collected a bunch of influences including rock, Blues, bluegrass, jazz, metal, folk, funk, fusion, country, Bach, electronica, Musique concrète, TV Themes and probably a few more.
In the last few years I have become fascinated with Electronic music. After decades of guitar, bass and drums it's a blessing to discover a world of new sounds and techniquess. It's difficult for me at this point to make electronic sounding music but I keep trying. Since lyrics are required in Spin Tunes, I will try to incorporate electronic sounds behind, and maybe within, the vocals.
This February was FAWM #9 for me and this year will be 50/90 #7.
Looking forward to meeting some new folks and hearing a different side of some old friends.

Last year sucked. This year, I plan to not only sign up, but actually write and record a few songs. Now to figure out this Band in a Box thing I have...or find a new partner.
Night Sky
Night Sky is Sally on lyrics, Steve on drums, and Matt on the other stuff. We like to tell stories amidst funky grooves and objectively too many saxophones. Night Sky started with Song Fight entries in 2020 and competed in SpinTunes 17 and 19.

Siebass
Siebass was born and raised in DC, and likes to hang out with his friends and climb things in his spare time, which is a vanishing commodity since having a child in 2017 and 2019. He plays guitar, drums, bass, and provides some vocals in The Vico Cycle, a DC area band. He does his own weird music under the moniker Siebass, or occasionally family friendly music as DadBodRadBod.

Sober
Sober has been foisting his twangy drivel upon the ears of the Songfight community for 20 years. He wasted his GI Bill money on an expensive dumb business degree. Now he narrates audiobooks, so way to go with that expensive dumb degree, Sober.
This will be his fourth time losing the SpinTunes competition. Since his last loss, he moved from Texas to Maine, where he lives in an early-1800's home that is aggressively falling apart.

The Alleviators
Travis (aka Governing Dynamics) and Beka (aka Rebecca Brickley) met during Spintunes #2 and instantly started sharing music. With Travis's post-grungy guitars, occasionally clever lyrics, reasonably competent production skills and Beka's soothing (except when it isn't, for dramatic genre reasons) voice, honest lyrics and effortlessly vibing keys, they found they complimented each other well. Ten years, many tweets, and several collabs later, it finally occurred to them - "hey, why not a project where we write music together?"
The Alleviators is that project.
