Read on for Ben's reviews!

Well, that was a somewhat tricky challenge, huh? What I don’t know about secondary dominants could fill a music theory book. I was impressed by all the ways you were able to adhere to the secondary dominant requirement. So impressed that I decided to challenge myself by making all of my reviews adhere to an arbitrary structure. Similar to the last round, I’ll be judging on Performance/Production, Originality, and my subjective vibe check. Bonus points are still on the table. I have swapped a focus on the lyrics for judging how much suspense, tension, and/or surprise I hear during the song. That seems to be the effect of the secondary dominant use, so I figured I should add something based on that.

During the week of judging I drove something like 1100 miles. These songs were an amazing companion to those long drives. Your songs accompanied me from Milwaukee to Green Bay and back again to Kenosha. Your songs were my soundtrack and I couldn’t ask for much more. I thought the slate was incredible this round, my ratings were razor thin!

Oh, and the arbitrary structure? All reviews will be in limerick form. Dirty limericks available upon request… (Not about the songs, just in general.)

gammammannn - Collided
Props on the bleep and bloop blending,
I can feel the planetary befriending,
New Horizon might be a touch hazy,
Couldn't hear Pluto get a figurative moon daisy,
But you should be commended on that wild solo ending!

glennny - Mottainai (What a Waste!)
Building an atmosphere right off with harmonics,
Like a textbook playing off the tonic,
I needed just something more,
For it fully to soar,
Those lyrics, though, are fully sardonic.

Wendy Wiseman Fisher - Falls Red With You
I Want to make sure that I’m firmly on brand,
so I’ll mention pumpkins right of the bat,
The mix could use some attention,
And the structure needs a more intention,
But the song did what the challenge demands.

OutLyer - Dive In
This song is both hopeful and pensive,
You can definitely feel the tension,
The ending came too abrupt,
And did interrupt,
A song deserving to be more extensive.

David Taro - Something About Her
The music and the lyrics point to searching,
The structure keeps the narrative forward lurching,
But she feels half developed,
When she should be fully enveloped,
In love that sitting in verses perching.

Hot Pink Halo - Borrowed Time
A voice that belongs in a choir,
The piano delicately delivers what I desire,
Both chords and time are borrowed,
But it points to reliance not sorrow,
A fitting tribute to a literary vampire!

SEE/MAN/SKI - Melton Mowbray
A sermon to celebrate home,
In the church of one Chappell Roan,
A highlight I’d allege,
Is teetering right on the edge,
But then landing right back in the zone.

Good Guy Sôjàbé - Whatever, I’m Not Precious
The rhythm that comes from those beeps,
Adds a certain element that is very sweet,
Though you may feel fatigued,
Your sense of self blitzkrieged,
The song is great and stands firm on both feet.

The Pannacotta Army - Jean-Paul
Really clever and cheeky approach,
Nothingness has never ever felt more like the most,
Apart from philosophy,
A highlight for me,
Was the whistling that was beyond reproach.

Huge Shark - Wanting a Letter
I could listen to the saxophone all freaking day,
And the lyrics make me want to say,
It has the tension of repeated walks,
Down to the mailbox,
For a letter you endlessly wait.

Boo Lee Crosser - As often as I’d like
As a musician this theme feels to real,
Your song makes me feel the same things that you feel,
But keep on persisting,
Your creative outlet ever shifting,
To maintain your artistic zeal.

Governing Dynamics - Demolisher
Would be at home in the 90s on radio,
Embracing rebellion in a pop song, although,
An improvement to make,
Would be just one more vocal take,
To make the song feel finished and whole.

This Big Old Endless Sky - Sunshine / Abyss
Love the music and the creative conceit,
Well done keeping up with the racing backbeat,
The very useful engine line,
Is a bonus point given to thine,
The rough and ready approach to me is elite.

chewmeupspitmeout - the house i build wouldn't hold
I’m impressed by the line of the bass,
Shifting, churning, and still melting my face,
If the structure is the fragile foundation,
The house avoids all damnation,
And I’d be happy to further explore its crawl space.

Jealous Brother - Under the Waves
Vocal harmonies roll in like a swell,
A word describing this song too, as well,
An offer to just dive in,
Let your own story begin,
Self-doubt and regret will be quelled.

The Alleviators - A Start
Incredibly and almost sachrinne sweet,
The vocals and harmonies sure are a treat,
The mix is solidly done,
Augmentations add a +1,
A great blend of warm hearts and cool feet.

☀️bucket - Shoot Me
At first I thought the performer a jerk,
Then I read the bio describing the work,
The production could be much cleaner,
But the vibe might be less meaner,
And to me, that’s not a bug its a perk.

Bob Voyg - The Navigator
The chords emphase searching for direction
Hearing “taking flight” I love the inflection,
The chorus sparkles a flickering star,
Relaying messages traveling far,
This song is fully deserving of high affection.

Möbius Strip Club - It Feels So Good
The claps come in slightly abrasive,
But the girl group vibe is persuasive,
The vocals shine when they’re needed,
So I’d say this song has succeeded,
In a melody that is highly invasive.

Sober - I Didn’t Leave Texas
A solid depiction of places and time,
Bonus point for the Cybertruck line,
The structure makes me rejoice,
And great work with your voice,
Nostalgia is always a great subject to mine.

Flintsteel - Last of Your Name
Superb opening musical meander,
Handling legacy and duty with candor,
You’re quite good with your riffs,
And a vibe that just fits,
Your role as a heavy metal music Highlander.

Micah Sommersmith - Three Cheers for the Judges [SHADOW]
Listening to this makes me blush,
But I appreciate it very much,
Not often do you hear an accordion
Makes me want to review more of them,
My heart after this, fully touched.
